Emer
Taken from the Ulster Cycle

See Cu Chulainn, a youth of speed and skill;
The women of the Ulster province loved him,
While the men were worried for their wives,
Or daughters who might still be left unwed,
And Cu Chulainn, they thought, should take a wife.
So Conchobor then sent forth many men
To find a girl for Cu Chulainn to wed,
But in a year, they met with no success,
So Cu Chulainn went forth upon his own
To woo Emer, a lovely maid he knew.
He spoke to her with riddles on his tongue,
That Emer's father moght not know the quest,
And only Emer understood his words
And told Cu Chulainn what she would demand.
For when he spoke of all her shapely parts,
She quickly set for him a set of quests,
To challenge him, that he might win her well.
And thus Cu Chulainn set forth towards his goal.
Upon his way, he journeyed to Scathach,
Who taught the ways of war with wicked skill.
Uathach was the daughter of Scathach;
She promptly fell in love with Cu Chulainn,
And soon Cu Chulainn took her for his own.
After Scathach had taught Cu Chulainn,
He went into the world and earned his name,
Winning it by valor in his fights,
Defeating all who tried to bring him death.
He later faced a few more challenges,
Emerging as the victor every time,
Winning women, glory, and some fame,
Till he went again to see Emer.
Emer's home was locked when he returned,
But Cu Chulainn was able to get in,
And fighting off the men who held the house,
He took Emer away to be his bride.
And on their trip he finished his last task
And thus fufilled the deeds she had required
And took her for his own, for evermore.
