Anthem April 11, 2002
Scream an anthem if you dare
Shout it at your life unfair
Make your mark on captive streets
Find yourself some bold retreats.
Will you shudder, do you dare,
Are you frightened by the fare?
Life is set before your eyes
Wander not to soft demise.
Watch my eyes, behold my cheek
Kiss me not before next week
Let me lift my eyes to yours
When I tremble, your heart soars.
Do my eyes entice your love
Do you pray to God above
For my kiss and for my life
Will you love me as your wife?
Touch-me-not, a prickly thumb
Let me make your heart grow numb
Let me watch you squirm and cry
Does your head refuse to sigh?
Will your ancient songs ignite,
Will you despair, or will you fight?
When your face is pale and grim
Will you amuse my wildest whim?
Sing to me, my dearest one
Let me bear your soul a son
Touch me with your captive glare
Sit beside me, touch my hair.
Lift a finger to my face
Slide it down and feel the lace
Let me kiss you one more time
Could I write your heart a rhyme?
Does your mind behold my ploy
Do you know you're just a toy?
Will you come in spite of that,
Or will you someday smell the rat?
When you scream in heed of night
Let my face invade your flight.
Think of me, and run away
I know you cannnot stay away.
Lift your head to meet my gaze
Can you count the painful days?
How the days have turned to years
And still we do not face our fears
Lest we peel away a mask
Which is the most unpleasant task.
When you face your life, despair
Scream an anthem if you dare
Howl and rant for day and night
Cry to God to see what's right.
